NDMA chief visits PDMA

KARACHI: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat, accompanied by Member (Operations) Brig. Mukhtar Ahmed visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh (PDMA) office Karachi on Thursday. 
Minister Rehabilitation Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, Municipal Commissioner KMC Masood Alam, Director (Operations) PDMA Muhammad Ali Shaikh and others were present on the occasion.
During the briefing Chairman NDMA was apprised about the major hazards recurring in Sindh i.e. Floods/Rains, Drought, Cyclones, Sea Intrusion, Earthquake and Accidental fires etc.
Chairman was briefed about the damages occurred due to natural disasters in recent years. Further he was apprised about the preparedness measures taken by PDMA Sindh to combat upcoming monsoon / flood season 2017.
Minister Rehabilitation requested Chairman NDMA for provision of heavy machinery i.e. snorkels for high-rise building fires, helicopter, earth moving machinery etc. to respond to disasters i.e. fire, earthquake, floods etc. to PDMA Sindh. Chairman NDMA ensured their cooperation in this regard. - NNI
