FBR surpasses 1QFY09 revenue collection target

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has released provisional revenue collection figures for the first quarter of the current financial year July-September 2008-09 (1QFY09). FBR showed a marked increase in the ratio and volume of revenue collection, said a statement on Monday. The revenue during the first quarter has jumped by 23.5 per cent as against the same period of the last year. Its sum total stands at Rs253,335 million as against Rs205,136 million collected during July-September 2007-08, according to provisional figures. The FBR surpassed the target of revenue collection for the quarter which has been set as Rs250,800 million, showing an increase of one per cent over the target. The collection of Direct Taxes witnessed increase of 9.1 per cent by going up from the collection of Rs77,532 million during first quarter of last financial year to Rs84,566 million during the time under review. Similarly, Sales Tax was recorded at Rs106,812 million during July-September against Rs82,752 million during the corresponding period of last year, showing a rise of 29.1 per cent. The Federal Excise Duty was up by 49.9 per cent during the period as compared to first quarter of last year. The Federal Excise was recorded at Rs23,799 million during the time under review as against Rs15,876 million during July-September 2007-08. The Customs Duty also witnessed surge of 31.7 per cent by increasing from Rs28,976 million during first quarter of the last financial year to Rs38,158 million during the same period of current financial year. - APP
