ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said Sunday that the neighbouring countries level allegations against Pakistan without any evidence and before even carrying out investigations.
Addressing a ceremony in Multan, he said conspiracies are being hatched to isolate Pakistan internationally and the country will face more challenges in the time to come.
Qureshi said before the PTI-led government came into power, the country’s relations with its neighbours were not good.
He said the war had been going on in Afghanistan for the last 17 years but the country would blame Pakistan for its internal matters.
The minister said Iran has also accused banned outfit Jundullah – now known as Jaish al Adl – for carrying out terror attacks on its soil. Similarly, China also linked the Turkistan Islamic Party terror activities with Islamabad, he added.
Qureshi said Modi-led government was also using every international forum against Pakistan while the United States considered India as its strategic partner in the region.
Pakistan was put on the grey list of the FATF and allegations were levelled that the country was not fulfilling its obligations regarding check on terror financing, he added.
The minister recalled that the country was also facing economic crisis and mismanagement was rampant in almost all the departments with no structural reforms.
Today, he maintained that the improvement could be witnessed in both internal and external fronts and Pakistan’s relations with other countries had improved.
The world had acknowledged the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan that there was not military solution to Afghan issue and a political settlement was the only way forward.
Now, talks between the US and the Taliban are in progress, he added.
Qureshi said peace and stability in Afghanistan was important for Pakistan, however, some elements wanted to damage the peace process.
Agencies add: He said the United States considers India as its strategic partner and not Pakistan, he said. In August 2017, the US announced a new policy called South Asian Strategy Policy. They said that they want to give India an enhanced role in Afghanistan.
“Pakistan was in the middle of a strategic squeeze.” All efforts were taken to box Pakistan. Everyone wanted to isolate the country. Indian PM Narendra Modi accepted that they took measures to isolate Pakistan, he remarked.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that India and Bangladesh held South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) hostage. He said the spirits of people are exactly like 1965 and the change has started coming.
“Intentions do matter but the reward is given by Allah. Pakistan will remain until the end of the world,” he said.
“Difficult times have come in the past, and will continue in future as well. The government faced many challenges when it came in power, and Pakistan was on the brink of bankruptcy. Pakistan was put into grey list during the previous government’s tenure.”
“The war in Afghanistan which has been continuing for 17 years has damaged Pakistan, and peace in Afghanistan will benefit Pakistan the most. There are terrorists’ hideouts in Afghanistan and the militants enter Pakistan to conduct terror attacks. Afghanistan always blames Pakistan for its own problems.”
