Murad approves more projects for Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah yesterday said his government is going to start working on development package for Karachi under which all the flyovers and bridges in the megapolis would be beautified through artwork.
The statement was made at a meeting at CM House here, pertaining to development projects in the city. The forum was briefed that 45 per cent work of Submarine Chowrangi underpass project had been completed with a cost of Rs 700 million.
Officials told that under the new scheme, 95 per cent work from Jinnah Terminal to ChakoraNala and Natha Khan had been done. The tenders for Rs 700 million Sunset-Gizri Boulevard flyover project and Rs 1 billion worth of an interchange project near ICICI Bridge will be issued this week.
Another such project includes construction of Khalid bin WaleedChowk at Shaheed-e-Millat Road with an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 billion, the technical evaluation report of which has been placed on SPPRA website.
The meeting was further informed that construction work on Cantt Station Road will begin from November 15.
In view of various development works, the chief minister directed the DIG Traffic to improve traffic management.
He said the construction works may cause a few difficulties for citizens, but the reconstruction can only be completed with their cooperation.
