14 passengers martyred by terrorists on Mekran Coastal H'way: Levies

QUETTA: At least fourteen people were martyred when terrorists attacked a bus on Mekran Coastal Highway early Thursday morning.
According to Levies sources, armed assailants intercepted about six Karachi, Gwadar-bound passenger buses and opened fire at 14 commuters after checking their National Identity Cards (NICs) and fled from the scene.
All except two victims died on the spot after receiving bullets injuries. Two victims managed to escape. On information Levies force reached the site and shifted the bodies to nearby hospital.
Where nine of the victims were identified as Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Wasim, Farhan-Ullah, Ali Raza, Zulfiqar, Muhammad Haroon, Ali Asghar, Hamza, Muhammad Rizwan, Muhammad Wasim, and Zabin.
The area was cordoned off and launched search to trace out suspects.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Dr. Arif Alvi have strongly condemned the dastardly act of terrorism took place at Mekran Coastal Highway in Balochistan targeting innocent people.
The Prime Minister has sought report from the administration and police and directed the authorities to make every possible effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The Prime Minister also expressed sympathies with families of the victims.
In a statement, the President Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives. He said such attempts to spread mischief in the country cannot succeed. The President said the nation is united as well as committed against terrorism.
Balochistan Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai along with Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Jam Kamal Khan condemned the killing of innocent passengers at Merkran Coastal Highway.
Chief Minister directed concerned department and law enforcement agencies to take strict action against those involved in killing of commuters to bring them to justice. He said on the behest of some foreigner masters and some anti-elements were spoiling peace of Balochistan and asserted that any activity to disrupt development in the area and threat to the lives and property of the people would be dealt with iron hand.
Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal also strongly condemned the attack on passenger buses in Balochistan. She said any terrorist act to disturb the peace and progress of Balochistan will not be tolerated and such activities cannot hinder the progress of ongoing development projects in the province.
Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi, in a statement, said timing of the recent terror attacks implies that the enemy wants to harm Pakistan at the Financial Faction Task Force and other international forums.
Information Minister Chaudhary Fawad Hussain has said that those involved in recent terror attacks in the country will be brought to justice.
In a tweet today, he said the attack on Hazara community in Quetta, Hayatabad and now the despicable incident on Coastal Highway all indicate an organized pattern of crime.
The Information Minister said that Pakistan has rendered immense sacrifices and registered major successes in the war on terror.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the entire Pakistani nation and its armed forces were standing firm against the menace of terrorism, Radio Pakistan reported.
While denouncing the recent terrorist incidents in Balochistan, Qureshi on Thursday said anti-state forces were fanning subversive activities in the country to achieve their nefarious designs. “The cowardly acts will not dent our resolve and we are committed to eradicate the menace of terrorism,” he added.
Qureshi asserted that the anti-state actors will be exposed and brought to justice.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly condemned the Mekran Coastal Highway firing incident that claimed lives of 14 innocent people.
According to details, the premier while seeking report into the incident directed the authorities concerned to make every possible effort to identify and bring the perpetrators of the barbaric act to justice.
PM Khan also expressed his sympathies with the families of the victims.
At least 14 passengers were offloaded from buses and shot dead on the Mekran Coastal Highway in Balochistan’s Ormara town.
According to Levies sources, unidentified armed men intercepted five coaches travelling between Karachi and Gwadar near the Buzi Top area. – NNI
