LAHORE: Reception was organised in the honour of five newly appointed Vice Chancellors including Vice Chancellor Government Women College University Sialkot Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar, Vice Chancellor Lahore College Women University, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor Government College Women University Faisalabad Prof. Dr. Rubina Farooq, Vice Chancellor Government Home Economics College University Lahore Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen and Vice Chancellor University of Engineering Technology Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar. Lahore. International visiting scholars from United States’ universities of Stanford and Seattle were also among the honoured guests.
The reception was hosted at Lahore Gymkhana Club by American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Sciences (IUCPSS) and University of Education, Lahore.
Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz, Provincial Minister of Higher Education Punjab graced the reception as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he welcomed the newly appointed vice chancellors. He said that key appointments in higher education sector are being ensured purely on merit through transparent mechanism.
Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, Chairman Vice Chancellors Committee, announced that a training workshop for the newly appointed Vice Chancellors will be organised this year which will be conducted by international experts and senior experienced academics from Pakistan. Dr Rauf-i-Azam Vice Chancellor University of Education also welcomed the participants and hoped that newly appointed Vice-Chancellors would contribute in higher education sector of Pakistan.
The newly appointed Vice Chancellors in their remarks vowed to undertake collaborative and joint steps aimed at improving of quality of teaching and research in higher education. They were of the view that through close coordination and experience sharing, the emerging challenges of higher education sector could be met effectively.
Senior academicians, Vice Chancellors, Head of Departments, Government officials, Senior Columinsts and Commission members of Punjab Higher Education Commission also joined the ocassion.
All the attending guests appreciated the efforts of Nadeem Akhtar of AIPS and Murtaza Noor of ICUPSS for their in providing platform and organization for such needed gatherings.
Nadeem Akber, Director AIPS, extended thanks to the participants and shared various useful academic initiatives undertaken by AIPS during last more than 45 years in Pakistan.
