On Wednesday, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the suspect, Mian Tariq,  in the video leak controversy of accountability judge Arshad Malik.

Forensic traced the video to Tariq’s adobe and the FIA’s cyber-crime department arrested Tariq while he was fleeing to Dubai.

The IHC removed the accountability judge Arshad Malik who sentenced Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Aziza steel mill case, from his post following the video leak. The videotapes were leaked by PML-N’s leader Maryam Nawaz on June 6, in which judge Arshad had been heard saying that the decision against Nawaz Sharif was “forced”.

IHC Acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq issued the directives in a letter to the registrar’s office. In the letter he asked to inform the Law Ministry that the judge has been relieved of his post and sent to his parent department, the Lahore High Court (LHC).

According to the Section 5A of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), with the permission of the chief justice of high court, the Law Ministry, appoints judges for special courts, which includes accountability courts. The decision pertaining to the removal of Justice Malik has also been made in view of the mentioned section.

Judge Malik also submitted a letter to Aamer Farooq where he claimed that the videos shared by Maryam Nawaz were fake. He then filed an affidavit before the IHC chief justice following the submission of his letter.
