Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi reached Beijing on Friday on an important diplomatic mission in view of the deteriorating situation of peace and security in the occupied Kashmir
Ambassador of Pakistan to China Naghmana Hashmi and senior officials of the foreign ministry received Qureshi at the Beijing Airport.
The visit comes in the aftermath of imposition of unilateral and unconstitutional steps by India in occupied Kashmir.
He is scheduled to hold important meetings with the Chinese leadership during his visit. The foreign minister will also apprise Beijing of Pakistan’s concerns and reservations about the unconstitutional measures taken by the Indian government and the aggression shown by the occupational forces.
FM Qurershi’s visit is quite significant considering the current situation in South Asia and the crisis in occupied Kashmir.
India’s Hindu nationalist government stripped the disputed region of its autonomy earlier this week in a move that sent shock waves through South Asia and has seen the restive area come under military lockdown.
Internet and telephone connections in occupied Kashmir have been cut since Monday and a curfew imposed as the authorities feared trouble when the decision was announced.
United Nations chief Antonio Guterres called on India “to refrain from taking steps that could affect the status of Jammu and Kashmir.”
