Karachi is business hub due to natural habour, says Zaidi

KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust in Collaboration with Institute Chartered Ship Brokers, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and The Nautical Institute Organized World Maritime Conference at a local hotel here Tuesday.

The inaugural and technical sessions were chaired by Minister Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi. Chairman KPT, Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar HI (M), Chairman PNSC Rizwan Ahmed, MD Karachi Shipyard, Rear Admiral Ather Saleem S.I (M), Michael Ryden from Scandinavian Maritime and Thio Cohliandn from Chartered Ship Brokers attended the conference.

Ali Haider Zaidi highlighted the strategic location of Karachi port and opportunities of unlocking maritime Potential through Clean and beautiful coast line which offer lucrative opportunities of revenue generation for the nation. He said that Karachi is the business Hub due to having natural harbour and it is only the matter of putting things in right direction. He informed about his Cleaning and beautifying initiative by starting a Project Keamari Boat Basin soon. He also spoke on role of Modern Technology, Automation in Ports and Shipping sector which will ultimately boost the cargo handling and shipping Potential of Pakistan.

Chairman KPT, Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar in his opening remarks said that 80 percent of the global trade is carried out through Shipping is making a major contribution to global prosperity in a way that has only a relatively small negative impact on global environment. He further said that by Organizing Maritime Day Conference is an excellent opportunity for the shipping Industry to show case its self to general Public and Government.

Later Technical session started by the Presentation of the Nautical Institute representative Michael Ryden who emphasized important the role of International Maritime Organization for Sustainable shipping and share there are 173 Countries are there members celebrating this Day. He shared this Year theme of IMO “Better Shipping better Future” with the notable participants of shipping sector.

The Closing Ceremony of this Conference started in Evening Chaired by Institute Chartered Ship brokers, Thio Coliandn (UK) who praise all the Organizers and speakers efforts for making all possibilities for Celebrating World Maritime Day 2018 Seminar, Conference and Celebrations at Karachi-Pakistan.
