Kashmir: Can’t afford to cease Diplomatic Momentum

Delegates from 193 countries assembled in United Nations Headquarters in New York as an annual ritual. They assembled-They read their speeches- They departed but never bothered to adhere to the Article 1 of the United Nations. For the information of readers let us see what the Article 1 says. Article 1 of the UN Charter states the following purposes:
1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and international law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace;
2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
3. To achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character, and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion; and
4. To be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends
The basis of formation of United Nations has been challenged, grossly violated in total disregard of Article 1 by India and out of 193 members barring two who attended 74th session of UNGA did not utter a word on the prolonged curfew in illegally occupied territory of Jammu & Kashmir and the atrocities being committed against people of Kashmir by over 900000 Indian troops. What a tragedy of this august forum whose duty is to punish the aggressor remained silent spectator. Actually west has always been on the side of India but their attitude this time was friendly towards India in spite of the fact India annexed Kashmir against internationally recognised disputed territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This is a known fact that it is the US that controls United Nations. We saw this demonstration when Trump chose to signal approval (India’s Kashmir move) by standing side by side with the Indian Prime Minister in Houston and went round the place hand in hand to show solidarity with India. Surprisingly this rally was also attended by 25 State Governors. Our closest Arab countries also showed luke warm attitude including Riyadh calling both countries to de-escalate but did not condemn India.
The speech of Imran Khan also highlighted that it is not only Afghanistan a burning issue but Kashmir is also there. He requested Trump for lifting of curfew but it had no effect on him because he loves India, on the other hand Trump has been offering his services for mediation. It is very strange PM IK does not want to talk to Modi on the other hand he keeps requesting Trump to mediate in Kashmir. What we should understand that Trump basically is businessman and India is market of 1.25 billion people therefore Pakistan figures nowhere. Every country has its own priorities and interests that supersede all type of relationships. The distinguished feature of Trumps diplomacy is that he is most unpredictable and has pronounced tendency to please every leader entertained by him.
What a tragedy we miserably failed to get support of even 16 members to move resolution in human rights council, whereas our foreign minister has been assuring nation that he has support of 45 members, he owes explanation to the people of Pakistan. India in any case has to satisfy not Pakistan but true leadership of Kashmiri people who represent them nothing short will work. Pakistan has to improve its economic condition, we have to lower our imports and increase exports instead of harping on war. War has never solved any problem, it brings death and destruction. We have an example of super power with all the modern resources spent almost three trillion dollars failed to accomplish mission and opted to sit and resolve the issues. To overcome our problems we have to adopt aggressive diplomacy to win support of international community
We have seen how the world kept quiet on the atrocities being committed on Kashmiris and till today Modi continues to show arrogance and seems to be unmoved and not interested to lift curfew, perhaps the longest in the history of world. The champions of democracy, preachers of human rights violation that has endangered the life of 9 million Kashmiris are sitting quiet as nothing has happened. Our meetings with different heads of state and telephone calls, writing letters to Secretary General Organizations of Islamic Countries expressing concerns over the change of status of Jammu & Kashmir has yielded no results. Our first last and final option to request US to help us out and this should be done at priority. A delegation comprising leaders from all political parties which matter should be formed to go out and get support from US, solo flight by PTI shall prove to be counterproductive.
Lastly the people of Kashmir look up to us and we have to grow beyond our internal political disagreements to provide a homogenous external political and diplomatic representation to them.
