DUSHANBE: President Mamnoon Hussain has called for coordinated efforts at the international level to alleviate poverty and achieve sustainable development goals.
He was addressing an international conference on Water Resources and Sustainable Development in Dushanbe, Tajikistan Wednesday.
Mamnoon Hussain said lack of access to clean drinking water is a serious matter. He stressed the need for sustained efforts towards addressing water related issues.
President said the world should stand united on water issues whilst rising above their differences.Mamnoon Hussain pointed out that Pakistan is faced with water and climate change related challenges but the country has made serious efforts to address them.
President Mamnoon Hussain visited the National Museum of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on Wednesday.
Besides President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, who delivered the inaugural speech in the opening session of conference, it was also addressed by the President of Turkmenistan, Chief Executive of Afghanistan and other heads of the delegations.
The President said in order to tackle the challenges there was a need to promote international cooperation and partnership at higher level in the field of science and modern technology. Mamnoon said his country was ready to extend all out cooperation to the world in efforts for addressing the challenges of water scarcity.
The President hoped that the deliberations as well as recommendations of Dushanbe conference on water will go a long way in addressing the challenges of water in the region.
Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday visited the National Museum of Tajikistan here in Dushanbe.
The museum building consists of 22 small and large exhibition halls that exhibit nature, antiquity, the Middle Ages, modern and contemporary history, and fine and applied arts.
The President visited various sections of the museum and took keen interest in the antiques and artifacts exhibited in the museum. The President, who was in Dushanbe on a four-day official visit, also recorded his comments in the visitors book placed in the museum. The President on this occasion was also presented a souvenir. – NNI
