Matloob is new Sindh Open Golf Champion

KARACHI: Carding 12 under 204 in the three day 54 holes event Matloob Ahmed of Lahore Garrison emerged as the new Jubilee General Insurance 20th , Sindh Open Golf Champion, pocketing the winner’s purse in the Rs.2.3 Million competition here on Sunday at the Arabian sea Country Club Golf Course, says a Press release.
Defending Champion Shabbir Iqbal finished joint 4th, with Muhammad Munir both of whom recorded a total of 5 under 211. Shabbir Iqbal failed to secure the title for the fourth time in a row.
Muhammad Ashfaq took the 2nd place in the main title championship with a 9 under total of 207; Ansar Mehmood was 3rd, with 8 under 208,
Kashif Masih of Lahore Garrison won the two round of junior professional title with 2 under 144, followed by Syed Bilal Hussain of Mangla Garrison finished 2nd, with 4 over 144.
Pakistan’s new found teenage golf sensation Ahmed Baig took a major title at the national level when he clinched the amateur crown recording 2 over 218 in the three day 54 holes event, which ran concurrently with the professional competition. 20 years old Ahmed Baig from Lahore in very recant past caught the eye of golfing community with some outstanding performances at home and abroad.
Talking to ASCCL Golf Manager the youngster disclosed that in coming January he will leave the Amateur competition to enter the professional domain. During the next four months he said he will be going to Asian Games and play two more major championships before crossing the door into the professional domain.
He also met the ASCC’s CEO Arif Ali Khan Abbasi who congratulated the youngster for clinching the crown and wishing his success in his golfing career in his future.
Taimoor Khan of Peshawar took the 2nd, place in the amateur category hitting 3 over 219.
In the two round Junior Amateur categories Hamza Shikho Khan from Karachi Golf Club took the first place. 7 handicap players Hamza carded a net 147. Junaid Irfan of DHA was placed 2nd, with the net of 159 and Damil Ataullah of Lahore Garrison was third the same score of 159.
Muhammad Akram Lahore Gymkhana won the senior professional competition with a total of 4 under 140, Imdad Hussain of Lahore Garrison share the 2nd position with 3 under 141 with Mehmood Hussain of Islamabad.
Aania Farooq of Airmen Golf Club with a gross of 149 won the ladies championship followed by Anum Zahra of DHA with gross 190 was placed 2nd.
