Malik Khuda Baksh hosts Iftar dinner
Malik Khuda Baksh, renowned businessman, expert of Energy sector of Pakistan, Chairman Pakistan CNG Stations Owners Association and Ex-International Director of International Association of Lions Clubs hosted his annual Iftar Dinner in honour of senior journalists at Karachi Gymkhana during the reported week. At the reception, he shared his success story and discussed current economy situation and energy crises of Pakistan. On this occasion senior mentor of journalists Mahmud Sham presented his books to Malik Khuda Baksh. The well attended Iftar dinner was also attended by various senior journalists of Karachi like Mubasher Mir President Karachi Editors Club, Faisal Zahid Malik, Manzar Naqvi, Ehtasham Mufti, Ali Imran, Iftikhar Ahmed and others.
Sadia Rashid for unity, peace and prosperity
Ms Sadia Rashid, Chairperson, Hamdard Pakistan, in a statement, during the week has said that Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was the torch-bearer of the movement of “27th Ramazan – Independence Day of Pakistan”. He started this movement in 1973 in order to re-create the passion, enthusiasm and sincerity of the Pakistan Movement in the Pakistani nation. Hamdard has been taking forward this movement so that the nation should not forget the significance of the day of 27th Ramazan 1366 Hijri – 14th August 1947 – a country gifted by Allah Almighty.
Pakistan is faced with many challenges.
She said Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said was confident that Pakistan, being a nation, born in the blessed night of Lailat al-Qadr, has the capabilities to overcome all impediments coming in its way of progress and prosperity.
She appealed to the nation to pray for peace and unity of the country in the blessed nights of Ramazan and on Eidul Fitar as the need of national unity is felt as much today as was never before.
Olympian Rasheed Junior XI wins
In the 8th match of ongoing President KHA Ramazan Cup Hockey League, Olympian Rasheed Junior XI beat Olympian Tauqeer Dar XI by 3-0 to fasten their seat belts for final. The match started with the full pace. The crowd witnessed the modern, skillful and very fast hockey.
Both teams had played some tremendous Hockey and entered into the opponents D several times but unfortunately Lucks favors the braves. Olympian Rasheed Junior XI strikers were right on the targets. Hammad Ayaz has scored 2 goals while Rizwan Khan scored 1 goal to seal the win for Olympian Rasheed Junior team.
This tournament is being organized by Karachi Hockey Association at Olympian Hanif Khan and Dr. Syed Junaid Ali Shah Hockey Sports Complex Gulshan Iqbal. Lieutenant Colonel, Commanding Officer, Raja Shakeel Ahmed graced the occasion as a chief guest who acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of KHA. He also appreciated that it’s a very good idea to honour the former legendary Olympians by tagging the names of Olympians on each team.
Olympian Hanif khan, Haider Hussain general secretary KHA, Gulfaraz Khan, Salman Shaikh, Mohsin Ali Khan and other noted personalities were also present on the occasion.
Umpires Faisal Ismail and Fareed Mansoor officiated the match while Azmat Pasha, Abdul Moeed and Mansoor Haider were the technical officials of the match.
Polio virus re-emerges in Karachi
The presence of the wild polio virus has been detected from samples taken from all major areas of Karachi, official data revealed during the week. The latest environmental survey carried out by the Emergency Operation Cell team shows the presence of the wild polio virus (WPV1) in 11 different parts of Karachi. Areas which are heavily affected include Gadap, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi, Saddar, Korangi, Orangi Town, SITE and Liaquatabad.
According to the survey, the samples were collected between April and May this year from six locations of Gadap, four locations of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and two locations each of Saddar, Landhi, and Orangi Town – areas known to be the hub of the WPV1.
This was the first time that the presence of the wild polio virus has been detected from samples at such a large scale in the country’s most populous city.
According to a spokesperson of the EOC team, so far two polio cases have been confirmed from Karachi. The total polio cases in Pakistan in 2019 so far are 21.
The Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication, Babar Bin Ata, said a massive campaign will start after Eid and that they will ensure not to miss any children in the vaccination drive. He urged parents to vaccinate their children in every anti-polio campaign so polio can be eradicated from Pakistan to save the future of its children.
