2nd Anniversary of failed coup attempt in Turkey

TolgaUcak Turkish Consul General at Karachi addressed a press conference at his residence during the reported week on the eve of 2nd anniversary of failed coup attempt in Turkey. He gave details about the coup attempt in 2015 and the role of Turkish public who failed this attempt and 251 citizens martyred and over 2000 injured saving democracy in Turkey. He also showed two short movies of failed coup night and the events after the failure of this event.
TolgaUcak, who is a very active, visionary person and man of ideas, after the press conference at high tea shared various ideas to improve bilateral, cultural and trade relations between the two countries and also suggested various proposals to improve tourism industry in Pakistan. MsRabiaKashif of Turkish Consulate coordinated the entire event in a professional manner.

Role of media in Elections 2018 and how to report elections

HumairaMotala, President Pakistan Council of Media Women (PCMW) organised an interactive session on “Role of media in Elections 2018 and how to report elections” for media women during the reported week. Caretaker Minister for Information Jameel Yusuf was the chief guest while senior journalist and author Mahmood Sham presided over both the sessions of this workshop.
Jameel Yusuf in his address appreciated the initiative taken by PCMW for the training of women journalists and pledged his support for working journalists. He emphasised the need of security and insurance of journalists saying owners of media houses are responsible to provide the same. Mahmood Sham in his concluding and presidential address also appreciated this initiative taken by HumairaMotala but taken late. He emphasised that this workshop should be organized at least two months before for better results. He emphasised proper homework and research for effective reporting.
HumairaMotala in her opening address informed the audience that PCMW is a volunteer platform working for the capacity building of female journalists. She thanked everyone who helped her inorganising this workshop.
Other speakers were SalahuddinHaider, GM Jamali, President KUJ Hasan Abbas, President Karachi Press Club Ahmed Malik, MubasherFarooq, MajidNizami, Akhtar Mir, Amir Ahmed Khan and ManzarNaqvi (myself) who delivered their thoughts on the subject. Information Minister along with Mahmood Sham distributed certificates amongst the participants. The workshop was followed by lunch for all the participants.

Devastating disaster  by floods and  landslides in Japan

Last week’s record downpours caused widespread landslides and flooding forcing more than 2 million residents across 29 prefectures to flee their homes and leaving tens of thousands without water and electricity in a daily temperature above 30c and high humidity in Central and Southwestern Japan.
Extending the profound condolences to the families and loved ones of victims of Japan’s worst weather disaster in 36 years, Ateeq Ur Rehman, Executive Director, AMTF said that we are shocked on the news of devastating floods and landslides in Japan which have killed 200 people so far, in the country.
In a message to Consul General of Japan in Karachi Toshikazu Isomura, he said that the news catches the breath and leaves us speechless realising the pain and miseries of our Japanese brethren. This agony and anguish fearing disease outbreaks and widespread water shortages in flood hit areas of Japan.
While thanking the people of Japan for always standing by thalassemic and blood disorder children of Pakistan, Ateeq offered that we would like to come forward for any required assistance by us for the victims and evacuees of these upsetting Flooding, Burst riverbanks and widespread landslides in central and southwestern Japan.

Pepsi Battle of the Bands

Pepsi Pakistan’s musical platform, Pepsi Battle of the Bands, is all set to launch its third season in July 2018. To announce the launch of the Season, an event was organized at X2 restaurant attended by media representatives, digital community, socialites and senior management of Pepsi Pakistan during the week. The upcoming season of BoB features a diverse genre of bands, including two bands with strong female leads. According to the information shared by Pepsi Pakistan, more than 400 bands applied for the auditions this year. The judges for this season include Strings, MeeshaShafi and Fawad Khan while Farooq Ahmed (Aaroh) will be seen as the guest judge for the auditions on the show. In addition to this, ShahiHasan will be seen in a new role of music producer this Season. A special screening of the TVC of Season 03 was organized at the event which left the audience with increased excitement about the show.
In the opening sequence, Kashmir is seen singing their classic hit KaghazkaJahaaz, with none other than Fawad Khan, followed by the second sequence featuring MeeshaShafi matching her powerhouse vocals to Badnaam’s, with a new rendition of Kala Jora, looking as powerful as ever. The biggest surprise of the evening was the last sequence of the ad which surely took the audience to a rollercoaster ride of emotions as a familiar sound of Strings performing “Hai Koi Hum Jesa” echoed in the hall, the biggest hit released by Strings some 15 years ago.
The closing of the ad features all the artists appearing in it joining Strings to chant the Season’s anthem together which is truly magical. The show was to kick off on July 15 and a new episode will be aired on every Sunday. Speaking at the occasion, SaadMunawar, Senior Marketing Manager, Pepsi Pakistan, said, “The third Season of Pepsi Battle of The Bands is just around the corner and we are proud to present to you another exciting Season of the show through which we have taken the responsibility of reviving the band culture in Pakistan and providing the opportunity to our young musicians to showcase their talent in front of the entire nation.
