Toshikazu Isomura presides over KEC meeting

Karachi Editors Club (KEC) organised its 21st meeting to discuss and acknowledge Japanese assistance in Special Education and Social Welfare sectors in Sindh at Beach Luxury Hotel Karachi during the reported week. Toshikazu Isomura, Japanese Consul General at Karachi presided over the meeting. Brig (Retd) Haris Nawaz, Caretaker Provincial Minister Sindh for Special Education and Social Welfare had confirmed to attend the meeting as chief guest but he did not turn up and not even informed about any reason for his absence till the time of the meeting. Neither he replied any message nor attended any phone calls from the KEC. This negative and discourteous attitude of Haris Nawaz was also discussed in the meeting.

Japanese Consul General provided details of assistance in Special Education, Social Welfare and health sectors in Sindh, especially in rural areas. He appreciated and mentioned that various Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in Karachi and Sindh are serving excellent. He said they observed services of NGOs up to five years after providing donations, if satisfied we provide donations and assistance again to the best performing NGOs. He mentioned various NGOs including AMTF who availed Japanese assistance twice within five years.
Isomura said that any NGO can apply for Japanese assistance by filling a form online which is available at the Japanese Consulate website. Replying to a question, Toshikazu pointed out and criticised that the Sindh government has converted Karachi Circular Railways project in the CPEC without informing the Japanese Government.

Agha Masood presents ‘Afghan Papers’ to Jameel Yusuf

Jameel Yusuf, Information Minister Sindh met the 4-member delegation of Karachi Editors Club (KEC) comprising Mubasher Mir, President, Secretary General (myself), Agha Masood Hussain and Abrar Bakhtiar members executive committee of KEC, at his offices during the reported week. The delegation of KEC suggested various improvements for Sindh including advertising policy of Sindh Information Department.
On this occasion, Agha Masood Hussain, the senior Journalist and Anchor presented his latest and comprehensive book on Afghanistan ‘Afghan Papers’ to Jameel Yusuf. I also presented my new 2nd book on China ‘Amazing China’ to the Minister and invited him as the guest of honour at the launching ceremony of Amazing China on July 1st which he was accepted. Jameel Yusuf also instructed his ministry to purchase both books for distribution to government officials of Sindh and academia.

Joanne Wagne assumes Charge as USA CG at Karachi

United States Senior Foreign Service career member Joanne Wagne during the reported week assumed her position as the United States Consul General in Karachi after the departure of previous CG, Grace W. Shelton on her retirement from USA Foreign Service.
Wagne served in Washington DC with the Board of Examiners, helping to select the next generation of US diplomats. Prior to that, she was the US Assistance Coordinator in Kyiv, Ukraine, where she was responsible for coordinating US Government support activities with the Ukrainian Government and other donors.
Her credentials include a long list of achievements including serving as Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs at the United States Mission to the European Union, Deputy Director of the Office of Pakistan Affairs and Deputy Counselor for Political-Military Affairs at the United States Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

BLH launches ‘Maango Mango Aur’

Beach Luxury Hotel Karachi launched its annual Mango Festival titled ‘Maango Mango Aur’ during the reported week under the guidance of its General Manger Azeem Qureshi from Istanbul, who was enjoying his vacations in Turkey. The Mango Festival ‘Maango Mango Aur’ this year was inaugurated by Toshikazu Isomura Consul General of Japan at Karachi by cutting the ribbon and most favourite mango Chunsa on this occasion.
Before the inauguration Grant Raubenheimer, Vice President Operations & General Manager Avari Towers, Syed Kashif Rizvi, Director Guest Services and Habib Afendi a senior official of Beach Luxury Hotel received and welcomed the Chief Guest Toshikazu Isomura and conducted a brief meeting with him.
In the meeting with Japanese CG senior Avari Hotel’s staff appreciated the services of Isomura for Pakistan and thanked on behalf of hotel on accepting their request to launch the festival.

Voice of Karachi organises Road Safety Campaign

The team of Voice of Karachi (VoK) organised Road Safety Campaign with support of District South Sindh Police during the week. On this occasion, Chief of VoK Abdul Basit Mundia talking to the media said that there is no doubt this city of Karachi is blessed with people who share their blessings with others, especially during the month of Ramazan. Free helmets were also given to bikers as a part VOoK’s road safety campaign by SSP South Sarfraz Nawaz to those passing by on their bikes without helmets.
