ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government will get the federal budget 2019-20 passed on the basis of its numerical majority in the National Assembly.
In an interview with a private television channel on Monday morning, she said the opposition parties and other parliamentarians must also realize that the passage of the budget is a constitutional and national requirement and creating any hurdle in this regard is violation of the constitution which is against the democratic norms.
The Special Assistant noted that the people will not take to the streets on the call of the opposition parties.
She said both the PML (N) and the PPP are responsible for the problems faced by the country and the people today.
Firdous Ashiq Awan further stated that the army has refused to take development budget which is unique precedent instead lauding the step opposition is hampering economic development in the country.
She stated that the opposition has right to criticize the government policies in a constructive way but blind criticism is against not only the democracy but also principle laid out by Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
She, however, said that it is our desire to engage with the opposition and steer the country out of challenges.
Firdous Ashiq said getting loan from IMF and other institutions are aimed at building institutions, covering budget deficit gaps and increasing revenue but the governments in the past befooled the people in the guise of mega projects instead of giving attention on real
purpose of loans.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting said opposition is doing politics on budget and hindering the path of constitution.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said budget is prepared for Pakistan and its people and its passage is a constitutional and national requirement.
She said governance and working of institutions are linked with budget approval. She said parliamentary proceedings and opposition leaders’ salaries can also be ensured after passage of the budget.
She said those who have destroyed economy want to further harm people.
