Political bigwig handed over sentence for first time in Pakistan: Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rashid has remarked that a political bigwig has been sentenced for the first time in Pakistan’s history.
“There is no doubt that Maryam Nawaz forged signature in the Panama Papers case. The documents were forged,” he claimed while talking to media.
Rashid remarked that Nawaz Sharif wants the people to come out on the roads. “They expect those people to come out to whom they didn’t even provide basic facilities,” he said.
However, he added that all the guilty persons haven’t been punished, adding “the story of Model Town cruelty is still left.”
It may be noted that the accountability court in Islamabad on Friday sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in jail in a case of having flats in London on the name of offshore companies.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry has welcomed the Accountability Court’s decision in Avenfield case against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.
In an interview, he said the decision indicates that accountability against powerful people has begun. He lauded the role of investigation agencies in taking this case to its logical conclusion.
Fawad Chaudhry hoped that PML-N will also accept this decision and move forward like a political party. – NNI
