KARACHI: State Bank of Pakistan through its subsidiary, Banking Services Corporation (BSC) has participated in the government’s initiative of tree plantation campaign by planting 73,417 trees so far across the country, says a Press release.
In a recent monsoon tree plantation drive, SBP & BSC across Pakistan and Muzaffarabad (AJK) celebrated 18th August 2019 as the “Plant for Pakistan Day” and planted a total number of 6,472 trees on 18th and 19th August 2019. Dr. Reza Baqir, Governor, State Bank personally participated in the drive by planting a tree in Karachi while commemorating the auspicious occasion of the Independence Day of Pakistan.
State Bank of Pakistan being the country’s premier financial regulatory institution is alive to its corporate social responsibility and has been actively participating in making the country clean and green. So far through its field offices in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Quetta, Sialkot, Bahawalpur, Multan, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, D.I. Khan and Muzaffar, AJK, SBP-BSC has planted 73,417 trees under government initiative of tree plantation across the country.
Meanwhile, another Press release says that the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has felicitated the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for forming the SME Pakistan Forum (SMEPF) for the development of the SME sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver appreciated the step taken by Syed Samar Hasnain Executive Director DFG SBP and thanked him for forming the much needed forum to be chaired by the ED-DFG SBP himself and comprising of total 11 members, 4 from Small Industries Corporations of the provinces, one from each province, SEDF, SMEDA, SECP and UNISAME.
The terms of reference are mainly for initiating and establishing, interaction, coordination and facilitation among members of the SMEPF for collaborative measures and coordinated actions with the common agenda of SME development in the country.
The SMEPF will recommend promotion of SME financing and development. These may be concerning to enabling legal and regulatory environment, supportive financial infrastructure, lending technologies and innovative SME financing products, stakeholders’ capacity building and market development and co-ordination with other stakeholders.
Besides arranging joint capacity building programs and conducting awareness sessions.
Also arranging distribution of published materials for awareness of SMEs and benefit of stakeholders.
The IH&SME Deptt of SBP will serve as the secretariat of the SMEPF.
Thaver said it would be an honour to work with the experts namely Muhammad Azam Quraishy (SBP) Ms Saima Ahrar (SECP), Nadia Seth (SMEDA), Yousuf Yaqoob (SEZ Committee & PWMA), Mehboob ul Haq (SEDF) and his co-members from the SIDC and SIDB from the provinces and of course the chairman, Syed Samar Hasnain (ED-SBP) who is much respected and considered as an ardent patron of the SME sector.
Thaver said that all the members are looking forward to the first meeting on 12th September 2019 at SBP Karachi and give their valuable suggestions to uplift the sector on fast track.
