RAWALPINDI: Raffia Rehman from Sports Sciences Society secured first position in Urdu debate competition held at Govt. Post Graduate College for Women, Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, here Thursday. The competition was organized by Department of Urdu to highlight the importance of national language among students. The topic of debate competition was “Lahu Mujh ko Rulati Hai Nujawano ki Tan-Asani”.
The Principal of the College and Campus Director Gujrat University Prof. Dr. Aalia Sohail Khan graced the event as a chief guest whereas Ms. Shakira Shaheen and Prof. (Retd) Ms. Samina Chughtai of Urdu Department were the jury members for the contest which was participated by 12 students from different disciplines.
Raffia Rehman from Sports Sciences Society secured first position whereas Hafiza Muqadas from FA-I and Zainab Rasheed from English Society got second and third position, respectively.
Chief guest Prof. Dr. Aalia Sohail Khan took an opportunity and addressed the students in which she highlighted the role of youth in Muslim history and their achievements. She said the Muslim youth was considered as symbol of pride for the nation. Currently, our youth is lacking behind reason being is they are not fulfilling their respective duties, she added.
She further said, “Dignity is in labour, honesty and truth” and we should work hard to achieve it. She advised students to say good-bye to self-complacent because it’s the only way to save the future of our nation. She also appreciated the efforts of Urdu Society for organizing this event.
Director Campus, Vice Principal and judges presented prizes to winners and certificates to all the participants of competition.
