Tree plantation drive in Karachi begins at Mazar Quaid-i-Azam


KARACHI: A tree plantation activity was held at the Mausoleum of Founder of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah to promote tree cover and improve environment of the city, says a Press release.
The initiative was launched by Community Advisory and Welfare Services (CAWS) in collaboration with Quaid-i-Azam Mazar Management Board, the Rotary Club, the Citizens’ Foundation, the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH), the Aman Foundation.
A colourful activity was held to mark the beginning of the fresh tree plantation drive in the city. The plantation drive was launched with planting of over 100 large flowering plants at the premises of Mazar-e-Quaid.
The chief CAWS Shaukat Omeri said on the occasion that his drive was meant to make Karachi a clean, green, and beautiful city and to prevent further increase of environmental pollution in Karachi.
He said that plantation drive had been launched fully in line with the recent announcement of Prime Minister Imran Khan to plant 10 billion trees all over the country.
He praised that different concerned stakeholders in the society including philanthropists, traders, corporate sector, and industrialists had been positively responding to the appeal of the PM to do tree plantation across the country on a massive scale.
Omeri said that a sort of public-private partnership should be forged to make all such tree plantation campaigns successful.
He said that his campaign would continue as under it over 500 plants would be planted in different parts of the city. He appealed to the concerned citizens to fully take part in this plantation drive.
He said that the tree plantation drive by his organization would be site-specific in Karachi and would involve different stakeholders to make it successful. The campaign would be carried out to supplement similar tree plantation drives by federal, provincial, and local governments in the city.
He appealed to the concerned politicians and top authorities like the governor, chief minister, and ministers to support all such efforts to reduce environmental pollution in the province.
Also present on the occasion were MNA of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Muhammad Aslam Khan, MPA Muhammad Riaz, TV personalities Savera Nadeem, Hina Dilpazeer, Zainab Khan, Abbas Ali, Zafar Khan, Sohail Ahmed, NFEH President Naeem Qureshi, Chief Engineer of Quaid-e-Azam Mazar Management Board Mohmmad Arif. A large number of school children were also present on the occasion and took part in the plantation activity.
