It’s been a week since we celebrated Eid ul Azha, and karachi’s roads are still reeling from the aftermath. The city seems to be still struggling with massive cleaning lapses.
This negligence leave behind a trail of animal waste alongwith garbage.
Inspite of promises made day and night by the authorities,the unhygienic scenes on roadside not only unpleasant but it’s also a health hazard. The common scenes are piles of animal waste and street animals roaming around. In such situations citizens, the common man are rightly worried about any serious incident and health hazard issues. Question arises when after making tall claims, where are the authorities? should step in and sort this out ?
Although Sind Solid Waste Management Board ( SSWMB) promised to manage and organise the cleaning of the offal ( animal waste) but when time to act, they miserably failed. SSWMB’s promises seemed empty and left the post Eid city streets all filthy. The scorching heat has made the animal waste and the other garbage nightmare, specially in Central Zone neighbourhood which are severely affected. The main roads, the streets of residential locations also create a scene nobody want to see. A complete mess making life miserable for the area residents and commuters. Is anyone out there listening?
In other main roads of the city life is hell
as the roads are damaged, all dugged up for different purposes change of phone lines, gass pipes etc etc…as there is zero communication among different sectors.
Also the hot environment, the high humidity levels perhaps the reason of the decay of animal waste piles..it is unbearable for the commuting population on those routes.
With these there are other issues as well, such as power outages and water shortages..even private water tankers not available, that further accelerate the issue. The Municipal trucks couldn’t find the way to perform the task in the situation.
However, the waste management statics are released now.
According to SSWMB statement, as much as 142, 816 tonnes of animal waste and garbage were collected and disposed off during Eid ul Azha operations.
Many media channels report either no or very little work done during Eid days.
Efficiency not seen anywhere.
The board said nine trenches were prepared at landfill sites, and 99 collection points were established across the city to facilitate waste disposal.
In addition the teams also carried out fumigation, disinfecting spray and washing roads with rose water.
