JCP Recommends Nine Lawyers as Additional Judges for Lahore High Court

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended nine Supreme Court advocates for appointment as additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC). The decision was made during a JCP meeting held at the Supreme Court conference room under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi.

The nominated lawyers include:

  1. Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom
  2. Malik Waqar Haider Awan
  3. Sardar Akbar Ali
  4. Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi
  5. Malik Javid Iqbal Wains
  6. Muhammad Jawad Zafar
  7. Khalid Ishaq
  8. Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid
  9. Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood

The commission had initially received 49 nominations, including four district and sessions judges. Among them was Jazeela Aslam, former Supreme Court registrar during ex-CJP Qazi Faez Isa’s tenure, along with Qaiser Nazir Butt, Muhammad Akmal Khan, and Ibhar Gul Khan. While these judges were not selected, the commission decided they could be re-nominated for future vacancies.

Before the meeting commenced, members of the commission collectively expressed condolences on the passing of the wife of Akhtar Hussain, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and a member of the JCP.

Additionally, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has scheduled another JCP meeting for February 10 to consider nominations for the appointment of eight new Supreme Court judges.
