Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded three shepherds from Gilgit-Baltistan whose timely warning helped save hundreds of lives during a recent Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF).
In a ceremony held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister met Wasyiat Khan, Insaar, and Muhammad Khan, presenting each of them with a cheque of Rs2.5 million as a token of recognition.
“These three men are the heroes of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the entire nation is proud of them,” PM Shehbaz said, praising their vigilance that enabled the safe evacuation of villagers and averted a major disaster.
He also announced that the Ministry of Climate Change is developing an early warning system in Gilgit-Baltistan to provide timely alerts and reduce risks from similar emergencies.
The shepherds expressed gratitude for the recognition and thanked Allah Almighty for giving them the opportunity to save lives.
