The tragedy of Karbala happened on the day of Aashura, 10th of Moharram in 61 AH. The day, the beloved grandson of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) stood against oppression and faced the Umayyad Caliph Yazeed’s army of thousand plus soldiers. Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) was with his small army of 72 companions that include family men, children and his trusted friends.
Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) sent his men one by one in the battle field and each one of them irrespective of age fought fearlessly, bravely and embraced martyrdom. When all old and young sacrificed their precious lives for upholding truth under the guidance of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as). They did their best to save the life of their Imam,
Later in the day, at the time of Asar, Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) was left alone , no one was there except women and ailing son. Hazrat Sayeda Zainab (as) bid farewell to her beloved brother. He went in the field, fought with courage and many of Yazid’s army men lost their lives. Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) was martyred when offering his last prayer to his Lord in sajdah. It was not possible otherwise.This sajdah was his last sajdah that saved Islam.
Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) embraced martyrdom in order to save beloved grandfather prophet Mohammad’s (pbuh) religion and it’s true essence.
Hazrat Zayn al Abidin (as) , beloved ailing son of Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) was the only male member who survived. He was declared 4th Imam by his father Hazrat Imam Hussain (as).
After Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as), Hazrat Sayeda Zainab (as) took the charge of the surviving caravan, women and children of the family. When Yazid maloun’s, army burnt their tents … Hazrat Sayeda Zainab (as) saved all the members including Hazrat Imam Zayn al Abidin (as).
From Karbala to Kufa and then to Shaam she was the leader. Her speeches in the court of Yazeed in Damascus surprised everyone there listening. Her address in the court reminded everyone of her beloved father Hazat Imam Ali (as).
The people in the court were not told the reality about Ahleibeit when they came to know the truth, they were shocked how Yazid was treating Prophet Mohammad’s (pbuh) family. Then ahleibeit received their sympathy abundently. Her role throughout after Karbala and then after returning to Nana’s Madina was exemplary. She fulfilled all her responsibilities as the care taker of the family. At the same time she was heartbroken when couldn’t save the life of brother Hussain’s beloved young daughter, Bibi Sakina bintul Hussain (as) who passed away in Damascus while in the prison which was a small dark room with no ventilation.
When the caravan returned to Madina, she organised the first majlis. It was the gathering of mourning people whom she narrated the events, the incidents faced by them in Karbala, Kufa and Shaam. From there the tradition to mourn in majlis e aza was established. Hazrat Sayeda Zainab (as) to-date stand as the symbol of courage, bravery, resilience and leadership.
Karbala is alive even today after 1400 years as Hazrat Zainab (as) established the tradition of majalis.
Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) is remembered every year, no every day. Every Muslim soul observe and mourn his martyrdom with respect, more during the first 10 days in the month of Moharram.
The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (as) in Karbala, his enduring legacy teaches us valuable lessons.
The foremost lesson is to stand against injustic, no matter what. Hazrat Imam Hussain (as) refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid’s corrupt regime, while choosing martyrdom over submission. All Muslims must follow this.
Hazrat Imam Hussain (as) fought for his mission for reforms. He aimed to bring positive change and preserve his grandfather Prophet Mohammad’s (pbuh) Islam and it’s true principles.
His mission also carried how important is humanity? How important it is to sacrifice for humanity?
Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) and his family and companions were denied water for several days, and they fought in scorching heat, when deprived of even a drop of water.
His priority was defending human dignity, freedom, and justice over self defence or safety.
Hazrat Imam Hussain ibn Ali (as) during the year 61 hijri set valuable examples for us to honour and follow.
Further, after learning the basic gist of the tragedy of Karbala, it is useless if we do not learn how to apply it in our daily lives.
However, Hazrat Imam Hussain (as) martyrdom inspire us to take certain actions accordingly with courage that we see in Karbala. Perhaps the most important is to accept the challenge to speak out against oppression. Speak kindly but firmly against injustice. Support colleagues or friends who need help.
Active participation require in promoting fairness among community people.
It encourages to fight injustices in our communities and support marginalised population.
Another worth mentioning point is to try to create positive change. Done mainly by engaging in initiatives that promote fairness, equality, and compassion.
Remaining intact with values also required, that is uphold justice, dignity, and empathy in our day-to-day relationships and actions also.
Listen actively to someone struggling, never hesitate to offer help to a colleague or a coworker. It is also good to volunteer to any cause.
However, maybe it is important to set boundaries and take care of self.
Life is nothing but accumulation of risks and challenges. Stand tall and face challenges.
Share ideas with partner even unique one’s and also those not very popular.
In this regard need to know how to move further. How to act practically
It is most important to reflect on how one can address injustice.
Then support organisations which are working towards social justice and human rights.
Relationships are extremely important and valuable. Cultivate the culture of empathy and kindness in all kinds of relationships.
The key is to start small that is, first try to apply values share time, and it is a must.
