Traders Demand Maryam Nawaz as Sindh CM, Spark Political Debate

KARACHI: Karachi’s business community stirred up a lively exchange during a meeting with Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday, humorously requesting, “Give us Maryam Nawaz for some time and keep Murad Ali Shah.”

The traders unanimously expressed their support for Maryam Nawaz to serve as Sindh’s Chief Minister. While Ahsan Iqbal chose to smile at the suggestion, he refrained from offering any comment.

However, the Sindh government did not take kindly to the traders’ remarks. Sindh MPA and spokesperson Sadia Javed called the request disrespectful and dismissed the individual who made it as a “flatterer.”

Javed asserted that, “The ground realities cannot be altered. Democracy is not a game where leaders are swapped like chess pieces. The elected representatives of Sindh carry the people’s mandate, and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been leading a truly business-friendly government in the province.”

She further criticized the traders’ group for focusing on political suggestions rather than business matters, accusing them of attempting to undermine Sindh’s democratic processes.

The exchange highlights ongoing political sensitivities and differences between Sindh’s leadership and various business circles.
