In the pages of history, some days are not merely dates; they are days that change the destiny of humanity. Some moments do not disappear into the passage of time; rather, they leave their marks upon the pages of centuries.
The 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal is such a day of great significance for believers. Whenever this day is remembered, hearts become filled with love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), eyes lower with reverence, and tongues spontaneously send blessings and salutations upon him.
This is the blessed occasion that taught humanity that greatness does not mean sitting upon a throne of power; greatness means finding a place in the hearts of people. It taught the world that light does not spread only through lamps-it also spreads through character. Revolution does not come only through the sword; it can also come through good morals. And a person does not become great merely because of himself; rather, true greatness comes from becoming a source of mercy for others.
Before the arrival of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the world was engulfed in profound darkness. People were enemies of one another. The powerful oppressed the weak. The birth of a daughter was regarded as a source of shame. Slaves were considered inferior to other human beings, and tribal prejudice had divided society into countless groups.
In such an environment, Allah Almighty sent His final Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who showed humanity the path of monotheism, justice, mercy, brotherhood, purity, and noble character. From the deserts of Arabia, this message rose and illuminated hearts across the world.
One of the greatest qualities of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was that he connected people with their Lord while simultaneously teaching them to respect the dignity of other human beings.
The message that no Arab has superiority over a non-Arab and that the true measure of excellence is piety was not merely a statement in a sermon. It was a profound declaration of human equality that challenged centuries-old systems of social hierarchy.
Every chapter of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life is a picture of love and mercy. Even after being hurt and rejected at Ta’if, when the angel offered that the people could be punished between the mountains if he wished, the Mercy to the Worlds (PBUH) chose the path of hope rather than condemnation.
He did not wish for their destruction. Instead, he hoped that goodness and guidance would come through their future generations.
This is the greatness of Muhammad (PBUH): even for those who caused him pain, he prayed for guidance.
The conquest of Makkah is another remarkable chapter of history. Those who had opposed the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions were granted forgiveness. He established the rights of women, emphasized honesty in trade, and made justice a foundation of society.
In the gathering of the Prophet (PBUH), the wealthy and the poor could sit together. The powerful and the weak could both come before him. Whoever came with a question was heard; whoever came with sorrow was comforted; whoever made a mistake was given an opportunity for correction.
The Prophet (PBUH) did not merely give people instructions. Through his own example, he showed them how to become better human beings.
Today, despite enormous technological and material progress, the world suffers from restlessness. People have countless ways to communicate, yet distances between hearts continue to grow. There is great wealth, but little contentment. There is an abundance of information, but a shortage of wisdom.
At such a time, the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) has become more relevant to our lives than ever before.
We may illuminate our streets on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, hold gatherings, recite Durood and Salaam, listen to Naats, and express our love for the Messenger (PBUH). These are beautiful expressions of devotion in their own right.
But the greatest message of this day is that we should also reflect the teachings of Muhammad (PBUH) in our character.
If our tongues are moist with Durood but we hurt the hearts of others, we should reflect upon our actions.
If we express our love for the Messenger (PBUH) at Milad gatherings but forget the rights of our parents, spouses, children, neighbors, or those who work under us, then we need to understand the true message of the Seerah.
If we lovingly mention the name of the Prophet (PBUH) but engage in lying, deception, dishonesty, and injustice in our dealings, then our devotion needs the fragrance of righteous action.
Love for Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) is not merely an emotion; love also means obedience.
Love means honesty in our businesses, compassion in our homes, gentleness in our speech, dignity in our disagreements, justice in our decisions, and sincere concern for the well-being of Allah’s creation in our hearts.
Today, the Muslim Ummah needs this Prophetic character more than ever.
We should not teach our children only who the Prophet (PBUH) was. We should also show them how the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) can transform their everyday lives.
We should teach them that speaking the truth is a Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), forgiving others is a Sunnah, seeking knowledge and respecting knowledge are Sunnah, and treating people with kindness is part of the Prophetic way.
The world has seen many conquerors, but Muhammad (PBUH) was a conqueror of hearts.
The world has seen many philosophers, but Muhammad (PBUH) was a teacher who connected faith with character, worship with morality, and belief with humanity.
The Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) does not belong to one nation, region, or era. The Qur’an describes him as “a mercy to the worlds.”
This is why, despite the passing of centuries, the message of Muhammad (PBUH) remains fresh.
Times have changed. Civilizations have changed. Social structures have changed. Yet the fundamental problems of humanity-hatred, oppression, arrogance, injustice, and restlessness-still exist.
Against all these problems, the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH) remains a beacon of light.
The 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal teaches us not only to take pride in our past but also to examine our present.
The question is not merely how strongly we claim to love the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). The real question is: How much of that love can be seen in our lives(PBUH)
Are the fragrance of the Seerah and the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) reflected in our prayers, our dealings, our businesses, our politics, our society, and our behavior(PBUH)
If the answer is not completely yes, there is no need for despair. The door of love for the Messenger (PBUH) is always open.
A sincere repentance today, a truthful promise, an act of forgiveness, a charitable deed, fulfilling someone’s right, avoiding a lie, or treating another human being with kindness can change the direction of our lives.
The true message of the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal is:
Do not light lamps only in the streets; light them in your hearts as well.
Do not decorate gatherings only outside; decorate your character as well.
Do not recite Naats only with your tongue; let your life become a reflection of their message.
As we present the flowers of love before the sacred presence of our Master, Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH), we should also make a commitment that we will make his Seerah the mirror of our lives.
Our tongues will speak the truth.
Our hands will not oppress anyone.
Our hearts will make room for love instead of hatred.
And, as far as possible, our existence will become a source of ease and benefit for others.
Words will always fall short when describing the greatness of Muhammad (PBUH). Poets may continue writing poetry, speakers may continue delivering speeches, pens may continue writing, and centuries may pass, yet the greatness of the Mercy to the Worlds (PBUH) can never be fully encompassed.
He (PBUH) is the blessed personality upon whom the Lord of the universe sends blessings, upon whom the angels send blessings, and whom the believers are commanded to honor with blessings and salutations.
The 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal is not merely a day of celebration; it is also a day of renewing our commitment.
It reminds us that the Prophet (PBUH) who brought light to humanity wandering through darkness showed a path that remains available to his Ummah. If the Ummah returns to dignity, unity, knowledge, justice, and good character, the world can once again benefit from that light.
Let us offer Durood and Salaam from the depths of our hearts:
O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), with your arrival, humanity found a path, hearts received light, life found purpose, and morality reached new heights.
Our greatest good fortune is that we are among your Ummah.
May Allah Almighty grant us true love for the Prophet (PBUH), the ability to follow his example completely, and the strength to live according to his pure Seerah.
Blessed 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal – the day whose blessed connection brought light to history and whose remembrance continues to keep millions of hearts alive.
