Arshad Nadeem ran only 17 steps to achieve an Olympic gold for the country, a country which was starving for any good news to celebrate.
In 2012 he participated for the first time in a javelin throw competition in the country, from then onwards with sheer hard work he never looked back and won an Olympic gold medal, first gold in 40 years for Pakistan.
Mian Channu is his birthplace and its land is not only very fertile for the production of wheat and cotton but now it can proudly claim that it cultivated a national hero. Arshad Nadeem’s city Mian Channu was named after a Sufi Saint, Hazrat Baba Mian Channu, who had lived there at one point. After his death, he was buried there. Arshad Nadeem, created history by throwing a Javelin at a massive distance of 92.97 meter and claiming a gold medal with a new Olympic record in Men’s Javelin throw competition in Paris Olympics 2024.
In the 118 years of history in Olympics Arshad Nadeem’s throw is the longest, which brought a medal for Pakistan after 32 years.
Those who rose to fame from Mian Channu earlier were former Chief Minister of Punjab Ghulam Haider Wyne and religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, both were well known across Pakistan. But the rare feat which Arshad Nadeem accomplished took him to fame globally.
Arshad Nadeem 6.4 inches tall is the first Pakistan athlete to claim a gold medal in Olympics.
Prior to the gold in Olympics 27-year-old Arshad Nadeem clinched gold medals in Commonwealth games, Islamic solidarity games and South Asian games and a silver medal in World Championships. His throw with the 8.2 inches long javelin was the 5th longest distance throw in the history. Within limited resources and urge to excel he was adamant to do something exam plenary. He always looked cool and composed even during tense situations.
After winning the gold he never looked overwhelmed and didn’t over react, as normally athletes do after success.
Arshad Nadeem after the famous victory was graceful, elegant and humble and showed no sign of excitement except bowing down to God and raising his arms in jubilation.
Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable journey and achievements have made him a national hero in Pakistan and a rising star in the world of athletics.
From bamboo stick, which Arshad Nadeem made for his first competition, to Olympics javelin gold medal, he stunned the world with his monstrous throw at the Olympics.
Arshad Nadeem proved that passion never die and a burning desire to achieve is always fulfilled, come what may.
A lesson to be learned that how a single man can change the direction of history by his motivation and will, and that’s what Arshad Nadeem did.
