The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday barred the accountability court from delivering a final verdict in the £190 million settlement case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, heard the couple’s petition seeking acquittal in the case. The petition was filed after a Supreme Court ruling in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendments case, which revived several cases by overturning changes made to the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO).
The IHC ordered that while the trial court may proceed with the hearings, it should not issue a final judgment until the high court resolves the matter. The bench also instructed Khan and Bushra’s legal team to submit the necessary documents and issued notices to the relevant respondents, adjourning the hearing until September 26.
Previously, the accountability court had rejected the couple’s acquittal pleas in the National Crime Agency (NCA) scandal case.
