ISLAMABAD: A majority of Pakistani youths have expressed their commitment to staying in the country, according to a recent survey by Ipsos Pakistan. The survey, conducted between September 20 to 27, 2024, involved over 1,600 participants aged 18 to 34 years.
Key Findings
- 74% of respondents stated they were not considering leaving Pakistan permanently and wished to contribute to the country’s development.
- 26% expressed a willingness to move abroad if given the opportunity.
Preferred Destinations of the 26% Willing to Leave
Among those willing to relocate, the most preferred destinations were:
- Saudi Arabia: 30%
- Dubai: 20%
- United Kingdom: 9%
- Canada: 8%
- United States: 8%
- Europe: 5%
- Australia: 3%
- Turkey, Qatar, Italy: 2% each
- Germany: 1%
Regional and Socioeconomic Trends
The survey highlighted regional and socioeconomic variations in emigration preferences:
- By Region:
- Islamabad: 46% expressed a desire to move abroad.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 35%
- Punjab: 27%
- Balochistan: 21%
- Sindh: 20%
- By Class:
- Privileged Class: 36% showed interest in leaving.
- Middle Class: 28%
- Unprivileged Class: 23%
Conclusion
The findings reveal a significant commitment among Pakistani youth to stay and contribute to national development. However, a notable percentage, particularly from the privileged class and urban centers like Islamabad, expressed interest in pursuing opportunities abroad.
