ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday said that more than 2.1 million people will vote for Provincial Assembly seats in merged districts of erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) whereas Pakistan Army will take the control of polling stations for security measures.
ECP Spokesperson Nadeem Qasim and ADG elections talking to press conference expressed that PA elections will be conducted in tribal districts for the first time in the history of the country whereas ECP has finalized all arrangements to hold the first ever elections peacefully there.
According to the Provincial Election Commission, polling process will begin at 8am and continue till 5pm without any break. 1,895 polling stations have been established for this purpose.
Tight security measures have been taken to ensure holding of the polling in a peaceful and transparent manner. Besides local police, Pak Army has also been deployed in polling stations to help the administration in maintaining peaceful atmosphere in the elections. Pak Army has been deployed inside and outside of 564 sensitive polling stations, while deployed outside the rest of them.
2,890,000 ballot papers have been printed for 2,881,834 voters. Election Commission officials said that the provincial government is also cooperating with security measures.
As many as 313 candidates would be in the run for the elections, taking lace on Saturday. According to available data, a total 2,801,834 voters including 1,130,529 female voters and 1,671,305 male voters would use their right of vote in the historical elections.
