ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday reached the PM house to attend the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan to consult the hearing of a case pertaining to the extension in service of the Army Chief.
According to a private television channel report, the legal team will brief PM Imran and the senior members of federal cabinet over the Supreme Court’s objections in case pertaining to the extension in service of the Army Chief. Sources told that judicial objections raised by the
SC will also be discussed in the session.
Earlier, Farogh Naseem, who has recently resigned as Federal Minister for Law, and Attorney General Anwar Mansoor on Wednesday have met Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Farogh Naseem and Attorney General informed the premier about the Supreme Court (SC) proceedings over petition filed against the three-year extension granted to Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Meanwhile, In a tweet, the premier said that ongoing curfew in occupied Kashmir for over 100 days has shown the “fascist mindset” of the Indian government’s Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) ideology.
He said Kashmiris are being subjected to the worst violation of their human rights by Narendra Modi-led Indian authorities.
“The powerful countries remain silent on Kashmir dispute because of their trading interests,” he added.
The statement came day after Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred three youth in Pulwama district, occupied Kashmir during a cordon and search operation.
Several people were injured when Indian troops used brutal force and fired bullets and pellets on mourners in different areas of Pulwama.
The killings triggered massive anti-India protests across the district.
On the other hand, the youth including Basit, Saqlain Mushtaq, Baber and Jehangir were also arrested by police in house raids in different areas of the town.
Meanwhile, speaking at a briefing regarding formulation of the National Socio-Economic Registry under the “Ehsaas” program in Islamabad on Wednesday, the Prime Minister has directed that social protection survey should ensure hundred percent coverage of the population in coordination with local governments and local administration.
The briefing was attended by Special Assistant to PM Dr. Sania Nishtar, Chairman NADRA Mr. Usman Yousaf Mobin and senior officers of BISP and Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Division.
Dr. Sania Nishtar briefed the Prime Minister that the initial survey conducted by BISP was in 2011 to identify deserving persons for socio-economic sustenance.
This survey had a number of shortcomings thus a fresh survey was commissioned which will be completed by 2020 with the help of NADRA.
The Prime Minister stated that “Ehsaas” is the flagship social welfare program of the government and aligns to the objective of poverty alleviation, education, food sustenance and health. Prime Minister directed that the survey should ensure 100 % coverage of the population in coordination with local governments and local administration.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the survey was a national activity and the central database thus created would have utility for other organisations as well like Utility Stores for provision of food items to the deserving citizens and other social welfare organisations.
The Prime Minister directed that utmost transparency be ensured in the survey process so that no deserving citizen of Pakistan is left out from the social welfare net and also that this must be achieved in the shortest possible time.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday approved, in principle, the establishment of Construction and Infrastructure Board which would be instrumental in addressing the issues being faced by the constructors.
The prime minister also directed secretary planning to formulate a construction development policy for facilitating all stakeholders including contractors, clients and consultants.
A delegation of Construction Association of Pakistan, headed by Eng. Arshad Dad Khan, called on the prime minister at the PM Office.
Minister for Planning Asad Umar was also present during the meeting, PM Office media wing in a press release said.
The prime minister observed that the present government was focusing on employing technology and making the processes digital so as to reduce human interface, eliminate corruption and ensure transparency in all business activities.
The delegation included Asad Ullah Khan, eng. Kamal Nasir, Ayub Sheikh, eng. Attah Ullah Khan, Aftab Siddiqui, Ch. Habib Kanwal, Yaqoob Izhar and Ikram Ch. The delegation appreciated the vision of the prime minister in approving the construction sector as ‘industry’ and the steps being taken by the present government towards meeting the existing demand for low-cost housing in the country.
The prime minister welcomed the suggestions and observed that the present government was committed to provide an enabling environment to the construction industry. – NNI
