LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has expressed deep concern over the suspension of Pakistan International Airlines’ operations for Europe and urged the government to fight the case more effectively, otherwise it would hurt trade and the economy.
There will be a loss, said President LCCI Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Senior Vice President Ali Hussam Asghar and Vice President Mian Zahid Javed Ahmed in a statement on Wednesday.
They said that since the government is already working to rectify the situation, PIA operations are suspended by Europe. There is no justification for doing so. They said that anti-Pakistan elements are happy over the suspension of PIA operations by the European Union Air Safety Agency as it would cause huge damage to the Pakistani economy and reputation.
The LCCI president said that it is very disturbing news for the business community which was happy on resumption of flight operations a few days ago.
The LCCI officials said that the government should take immediate action on the issue and resume PIA’s air operations for Europe through diplomatic channels. The role of Pakistani embassies abroad is also very important in this regard.
They said that after the coronavirus, the world’s economy is recovering and there are many opportunities for developing countries like Pakistan to increase trade “which we could not miss.” They hoped that the government would take this issue very seriously and use all means to resolve it. – TLTP
