The world witnessed the most damaging effect of corona virus resulting in massive deaths, greatest blow to the economy ever witnessed by the world, extensive unemployment, restricted movement by land air and sea, shut down of factories small big businesses, shortage of ventilators even in USA, but it was China that came forward in a big way and rescued the world with their excellent response and well prepared medical management plan with remarkable execution. It is true that virus’s spread made the epidemic in China turn in to a global pandemic. But the way it was controlled and rapid responses and measures adopted by China due to proper monitoring and high class medical facilities and its quick control in the epicentre Wuhan has been appreciated throughout the world. In this regard role of World Health Organisation in guiding and helping China to fight corona brought this menace under control.
Where does the virus come from? How could it spread so fast? Governments and media outlets around are trying to find out how this pandemic developed. China is facing many questions, criticism about the origin of the corona virus and the development of the outbreak. Initially nobody could imagine that it was so deadly that it is going to be pandemic and engulf the entire world, but the moment it was known it was deadly the reaction was very fast .The main reason of this disease is the high rate of human to human transmission mainly on account of international travel. Soon it drew the attention of WHO and necessary precautions were enforced. To reduce the consequences the countries were advised to address political, economic, social and ethnic challenges to fight the emerging epidemic. China made big improvement in their testing laboratories and virus COVID-19 could be identified within one week as compared to SARS that used to take about two months.
For more than 6 months, the world has grappled with severe health and economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Global economy collapsed in second half of 2020 when 85% businesses were shut down due to lockdown. Recovery of economy is very slow but the clouds of virus are again hovering over our heads. This has to be handled with greater sense of responsibility instead of scoring point by accusing each other.
As expected Trump blamed China for the corona virus while giving recorded speech to the UNGA asking to hold China accountable for their actions is simply out of context. Instead of appreciating China’s effort in controlling this virus and extending help to needy countries blame game continues. In fact we all know Trump has been repeating this mantra for many months but the world rejected it. It was poor handling of the virus by US that it lost over 200000 Americans but blamed China responsible for the Covid-19 outbreak without realising that China also suffered due to this virus but did not blame anybody but worked hard to save the lives of people and extended help all over the world that has been acknowledged by the WHO. In fact the appreciation and the praise of WHO for China that is hurting Trump. It is very strange that President of US while calling virus as invisible enemy contradicts himself when he calls it China-Virus. While elaborating on precautionary measures like production of extra ventilators and preparing vaccines that were distributed even then faced deaths over 200000 Americans. He continued his attack on China and stretched too much and tried to belittle the efforts of China. In fact on such a big forum where leaders get just one chance every year to address the countries heads message of peace, brotherhood and freeing the world from war hysteria and suggesting ways and means to end poverty should have been the objective of the speech instead it contained just criticism on China
On the other hand the speech of Chinese President Xi Jinping was well articulated balanced and touched the hearts of audience and listeners all over the globe. Unlike Trump he gave a very clear message of peace and harmony. He said China is the largest developing country in the world, a country that is committed to peaceful, open, cooperative and common development. We will never seek hegemony, expansion or sphere of influence. We have no intention to fight either a cold war or a hot war with any country. We will continue to narrow differences and resolve disputes with others through dialogue and negotiation. We do not seek to develop only ourselves or engage in a zero sum game. We will not pursue development behind closed doors. He further added that China will continue to work as a builder of global peace, a contributor to global development and defender of international order. President Xi Jinping announced that China will provide US $ 50 million to the UN COVID 19 Global Humantarian Response Plan and US $ 50 millionto the China-FAOSOUTH-South Cooperation Trust Fund(Phase III) While concluding Xi Jinping said Let us join hands to uphold the values of peace, development, equity, justice , democracy and freedom shared by all of us and build a new type of international relations and community with a shared future for mankind. Together we can make the world a better place for everyone.
