ISLAMABAD: The coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has claimed five more lives during the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll from the disease to 6,484, said National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday.
According to the NCOC, 34,239 samples were tested for the infection during the aforementioned period, out of which 543 turned out to be positive. The number of Covid-19 cases across the country has reached 312,806 with the addition of these new cases.
So far, 297,497 patients have recovered from the infection across the country. The number of active Covid-19 cases stands at 8,825. More than 3.5 million tests have been conducted in the country. As many as 490 patients under treatment at various hospitals across the country are said to be in critical condition.
So far, Sindh has reported 137,106 cases of the coronavirus, Punjab, 99,497, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 37,811, Balochistan, 15,281, Islamabad, 16,611, Gilgit Baltistan, 3,787, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 2,731. TLTP
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mirpurkhas, Zahid Memon lost his life battling the novel coronavirus on Thursday.
According to details, Zahid Memon was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi after contracting coronavirus. He was put on a ventilator by the doctors due to worsening condition.
The body of the deceased DC was handed over to his heirs by implementing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set to contain coronavirus spread.
Meanwhile, the total count of coronavirus has reached 15,281 after detection of 24 new infections in Balochistan. The province conducted 1,254 tests during the last 24 hours, whereas, one patient died of coronavirus. Overall 146 deaths were reported due to Covid-19 in Balochistan. Two cases were reported in educational institutions of the province. Overall 543 cases have been reported in the educational institutions so far, confirmed the provincial health department. A total of 137 patients have recovered from the virus, taking the total count to 13,915.
On Wednesday, the health officials had detected 16 more cases of novel coronavirus at educational institutions of Balochistan.
It is to be noted that in the final phase, primary classes in the province also resumed after the closure of more than six months due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to SOPs issued by the government, masks had been made mandatory for all teachers and students, while educational institutions were required to ensure the availability of sensitizers at their entrances. The decision to reopen primary schools across the country had been taken by the NCOC.
Meanwhile, the health officials on Thursday recommended imposition of micro smart lockdown in more areas of Karachi. TLTP
