Opposition leaders only desire to save corruption: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that all the opposition leaders have gathered at one platform to save their corruption.
Addressing a seminar of PTI Lawyers Forum here on Friday, the Prime Minister said that opposition parties have only one agenda to halt the process of accountability. “They do not believe in the rule of law in the country.”
The Prime Minister said he will not come under pressure tactics of the opposition parties and vowed to continue the accountability process. Former president Pervez Musharraf after succumbing to pressure gave NRO to both Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Pakistan People’s Party, PM Khan claimed.
The Prime Minister without taking the name of anyone said that a brother of the current federal minister has been appointed as spokesperson for Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.
He said the former prime minister by sitting in London is inviting people to hit the streets.
Recalling the meeting of the cabinet which allowed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to fly to London for treatment, he said that Shireen Mazari broke into tears after hearing about the health condition of elder Sharif.
The Prime Minister said the cabinet meeting which lasted for six hours was concerned if Nawaz would be able to climb the ladders to board the plane. The former prime minister has been directed by the court to return to the country and his arrest warrants were also issued, he added.
The Premier said that PML-N spokespersons are comparing Nawaz Sharif with Ayatullah Khomeini, but there is a huge difference between him and a ‘Nihari’ eating person.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the youth and educated population of Pakistan have great potential for the IT sector and his government is committed to providing all possible cooperation for the promotion of this field.
Chairing a meeting here on Friday regarding promotion of information technology (IT) in the country, the Prime Minister said that provision of enabling environment is vital to ensure contribution of youth in the construction and development of the country, especially in modern sectors.
The Prime Minister said Pakistani youth has proved its mettle, despite the fact of being neglected in the IT sector. Imran Khan directed the Chairman of National Information Technology Board to evolve a comprehensive strategy and roadmap to materialize the suggestions presented for the promotion of the IT sector.
The meeting also discussed utilization of the capacity of the country’s youth for the promotion of the IT sector, especially in the field of chip designing industry.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan has welcomed social media platform Facebook’s investment and programmes in the country and asked the company to increase its footprint in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister invited the social media giant for investments in a virtual meeting with Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg on Friday.
The two discussed Facebook’s investments in Pakistan, the company’s support for digital literacy initiatives in the country and its work around COVID-19.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister acknowledged the immense potential digital platforms such as Facebook provide, and the role they can play in giving “global opportunities to Pakistani youth and entrepreneurs and how the opportunities they create can lift people out of poverty”.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns around the global rise in hate and extremism and acknowledged the immense challenge of fighting hate speech online.
The two also discussed Facebook’s connectivity investments and research grants that were awarded this year to Pakistan-based academics. Other topics that were discussed included Facebook’s blood donations product, which saw more than 5 million people sign up since its launch, as well as Facebook’s support for the government’s goal of a polio-free Pakistan.
The PM and Sandberg also spoke about Facebook’s SheMeansBusiness Program which is training some 6,700 women across Pakistan.
Sandberg and Prime Minister Imran Khan last met in Davos, Switzerland, in January this year. – TLTP
