Corona death rate cut as 79 more lose their lives in a day

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported deaths below 100 after seven days as 79 people lost their lives to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the total death tally to 18,149, said the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Monday.
Last time the country reported below 100 deaths was on April 25 when 70 people succumbed to the virus nationwide.
According to the latest data provided by the NCOC, 4,213 people tested positive for Covid-19 when 45,954 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours across the country.
The positivity rate of coronavirus cases stands at 9.16 percent with total cases at 834,146. The number of active cases stands at 87,953 with the nationwide recoveries rising to 728,044.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic both in terms of cases as well as deaths followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
So far 306,929 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 285,626 in Sindh, 120,064 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22,620 in Balochistan, 76,209 in Islamabad, 17,371 in Azad Kashmir, and 5,327 while it has gained Rs14.69 against the greenback in fiscal year 2020-21 and appreciation has been Rs6.48 in the current year.
The currency experts said that the inflows of export receipts helped the rupee make gain on the first day of the week. The exports have maintained over $2 billion in April 2021. Exports for July-April 2021 grew by 13 percent to $20.879 billion as compared to $18.408 billion during the same period last year. The experts said that the inflows of exports, remittances and other foreign receipts would help the rupee to maintain levels in coming days.
Meanwhile, the foreign exchange reserves held by the country stand at $23.52 billion by week ended April 23, 2021, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said. The reserves held by the central bank stand at $16.428 billion while reserves held by commercial banks stand at $7.092 billion. – TLTP
