Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a serious cardiovascular disorder affecting middle-aged individuals. In this disease the major blood vessel get blocked that supply blood, oxygen and nutrients to your heart. Risks are uniformly high in the young and in women. In Pakistan 30 to 40 % of all death are due to coronary artery disease.
Probably in this disorder there is a blockage due to cholesterol plaque. It reduce blood flow which may cause chest pain, shortness in breath and heart attack due to lack in blood supply and oxygen, nutrients. Coronary artery disease is thought to begin with damage or injury to the inner layer of a coronary artery, that is due to Smoking, High blood pressure, High cholesterol, Diabetes or insulin resistance or Not being active. It’s important to reduce or control your risk factors and seek treatment to lower the chance of a heart attack or stroke, if you’re diagnosed with CAD. Lifestyle changes can also reduce your risk like, quit smoking tobacco, reduce or stop your consumption of alcohol, exercise regularly, lose weight to a healthy level, eat a healthy diet.
The question is CAD is curable or not?
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is treatable, but there is no cure. This means that once diagnosed with CAD, you have to learn to live with it for the rest of your life. By lowering your risk factors and losing your fears, you can live a full life despite CAD.
