ISLAMABAD: Cement exports surged to $28.527 million in May 2021 as compared to $15.012 million in the previous month April, showing a massive increase of 90.02 percent.
According t0 the exports data issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the worth of exports in terms of rupee remained Rs4.373 billion in May against Rs2.298 billion in April 2021.
In terms of quantity, the exports of cement during May remained 818,471 metric tonnes against 377,016 metric tonnes in April, showing a growth of 117 percent on a month-on month basis.
The cement exports jumped by 47.8 percent on a year-on-year basis as they remained $19.302 million in May 2020. The significant increase in cement exports during the month under review can be attributed to the low-base effect.
The overall exports of the country increased by 14.05 percent to $22.576 billion during the first eleven months of the current fiscal year 2020-21 as compared to $19.795 billion during the corresponding period of last financial year. The exports during July-May 2020-21 in rupee terms totalled Rs3,615.857 billion as against Rs3,105.799 billion during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 16.42 percent, according to the PBS. – TLTP
