Roads are never safe for those who neglect safety precautions. Following the rules and regulations are basics to witness the decline in road accidents. In Pakistan, road conditions are challenging, and thecherry on top is a serious concern about underage driving. Road accidents can happen at any time and anywhere just because of neglecting the simplest of laws.
According to Pakistan’s Bureau of Statistics, the number of road accidents that took place in 2021 were around 10,379, which resulted in 4,566 deaths. These are eye-opening stats, and measures should be taken to curb the issue seriously and vigilantly. One of the major reasons behind these accidents was underage driving.
It has been observed that underage drivers don’t take laws seriously. They are young, they overlook the rules, and the interesting part is most are not even aware of the driving rules. Patience is a hard-to-findtrait in underage drivers and this (impatience) is the cause behind most of the accidents. The impact of an accident is severe both on the one who is hit and the driver; it changes the lives of many people andcan result in a loss of life. Lives should not be taken for granted. Parents and guardians need to intervene wherever and whenever possible. The result of an accident can get pretty ugly as it alsoinvolves police and judicial departments. Better be safe than sorry.
Having a disciplined life triumphs all; in life, those who have a disciplined life and those who abide by the law reach the zenith of success and humanity. Humanity is based on thinking about others andkeeping them safe and secure. These traits should be instilled in teenagers and kids. These will help them grow and prosper to build a better, safer, and more secure society. When they drive on roads, theywill depict these qualities and follow not only the rules but will also be vigilant while driving and think about others’ safety.
That’s half the battle won. Understanding teenagers’ psychology is also essential thing; they want to become independent, they want to follow their elders, and everyone knows teenagers and underage kids are very volatile and defiant.
It’s, in a way, parents’ and guardians responsibility to educate them about the repercussions of driving without following the rules and laws. By introducing them to the consequences, it will be helpful for them. Plus, driving tests for driving licenses should be introduced in healthy discussions where details can be shared with them.
Proper policing and checking can lower underage driving practices. Authorities and traffic police should come up with awareness campaigns that highlight and point out the information in simpler and easy-to-understand words. This will create an impact on the minds of individuals below 18 years.
Accidents don’t affect just an individual by their families too. This is a serious concern and should not be neglected. Proper awareness sessions will resolve this matter, along with punishing the ones who cause such accidents.
