As Pakistan rejoices in a historic Olympic victory, javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem credits his achievement at the Paris Olympics 2024 to his confidence and rhythm, declaring that it was “my day.”
In an exclusive interview with Geo News, the 27-year-old athlete revealed, “It was my day. I could have thrown it at a greater distance.” Nadeem, who made history as the first individual athlete to win a gold medal for Pakistan, said that he felt “in the rhythm” and “hopeful” about clinching the gold medal, especially given the strength of his throws.
Nadeem registered a remarkable 92.97m throw in the second round, setting a new Olympic record and securing the gold medal. This victory not only brought home the first Olympic gold for Pakistan in 40 years but also marked the country’s first gold in any discipline since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where the national hockey team triumphed.
The new Olympic record surpassed the previous one set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games. With this win, Pakistan also ended a 32-year Olympic medal drought; the last medal was a bronze won by the national hockey team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Nadeem, now a national hero, expressed his wish to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14 with his hard-earned medal, adding another layer of pride to this monumental achievement.

Ace athlete Arshad Nadeem has set a new Olympic record and ended Pakistan’s 40-year medal drought in the men’s javelin final at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The 27-year-old, hailing from Mian Channu, launched a remarkable 92.97-meter throw, clinching the gold medal and breaking the previous Olympic record set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Pakistani celebrities quickly took to social media to congratulate the ace javelin thrower for his historic win.
Celebrity couple Hira and Mani, expressing their excitement, shared that they always believed Arshad would cross the 90-meter mark. “Pakistanis should start respecting sports and sportsmen,” Mani added, saluting Arshad for his incredible performance.
Host and actor Fahad Mustafa congratulated the nation on winning its first-ever individual gold medal, exclaiming, “Arshad Nadeem, God bless you. Pakistan Zindabad!”
Singer Faakhir Mehmood shared his joy, stating, “Arshad has made my heart happy. We are so proud of you. Pakistan Zindabad.”
Actress Mahira Khan, posting on Instagram, praised the record-breaking throw, writing, “What a throw! Breaking records, yes sir.”
