President to Award Arshad Nadeem Hilal-e-Imtiaz for Historic Olympic Achievement

President Asif Ali Zardari will honor javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem with the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, following his historic gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 27-year-old athlete, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 meters, will be recognized for his exceptional contributions to sports in a special ceremony.

The recognition marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s sporting history, as Nadeem’s triumph represents the country’s first individual Olympic gold medal, and the first medal in athletics at the Olympics. His victory also ended a 40-year gold medal drought for Pakistan in any discipline. The president will bestow the award under Article 259(2) of the Constitution, in recognition of Nadeem’s efforts to elevate Pakistan’s status on the global sports stage.

Nadeem, who defeated defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India to secure his win, will return to his hometown, Lahore, on Sunday. His remarkable achievement has sparked celebrations across the country, particularly in his hometown of Khanewal.
