Top Performing Youths to Receive Smartphones, Laptops: PM

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that the federal government will distribute one million smartphones, tablets, and laptops to top-performing students across the country this year. Speaking at an event organized by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYM) to mark International Youth Day, the Prime Minister emphasized that empowering the youth is a top priority for the government as part of its vision to transform Pakistan into a thriving and developed nation.

The Prime Minister recalled his tenure as Punjab Chief Minister under the leadership of PMLN Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and reiterated his commitment to providing opportunities for the youth to shape the country’s future. He acknowledged the immense potential of the youth to elevate the nation, provided they have access to modern education and resources.

Highlighting his vision to equip the talented youth with education in information technology and artificial intelligence, the Premier noted that such initiatives could ignite a revolution in Pakistan similar to China’s progress. He also referenced his previous efforts to provide modern facilities to students at the Danish schools.

However, the Prime Minister expressed concern that despite 77 years of independence and abundant resources, Pakistan remains burdened by debt, with many citizens unable to afford basic necessities due to extreme poverty, while the elite enjoy significant privileges.

Shehbaz Sharif announced that the government will ensure the distribution of smartphones, tablets, and laptops to top-performing students across the country, including those from Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and remote areas of Balochistan. He also mentioned that each province has its own programs to support students.

In addition to this, the Prime Minister pledged to personally fund the education of 1,000 agricultural graduates in China, with the aim of equipping them with modern technology to boost agricultural production. He also mentioned Huawei’s commitment to sending 200,000 youths for IT training and advanced education.

The Prime Minister also highlighted several key initiatives launched at the event, including the Commonwealth Youth Alliance Secretariat in Islamabad, the Digital Learning Portal, the PM Green Youth Movement, and the AI for Youth Programme, which offers Intel-certified skills to young people.

Shehbaz Sharif concluded by emphasizing the importance of learning from past mistakes and striving for progress. He assured that efforts will be made to revive the country’s hockey and praised javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal for Pakistan after a gap of over 40 years. He also announced plans to unveil a comprehensive development plan for the country on August 14.
