A new case has been filed against the suspect involved in the fatal Karsaz road accident after traces of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth, were discovered in her blood and urine samples, as reported by Geo News on Saturday, citing police sources.
The blood and urine samples were taken by the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) shortly after the tragic incident. The police stated that a fresh case was lodged against the suspect on behalf of the state following the release of a new report from the medico-legal officer (MLO).
In light of the new evidence, a section related to the use of prohibited substances has been added to the case. The presence of the banned substance was confirmed in the suspect’s blood sample, strengthening the case against her.
Karachi’s Additional Inspector General of Police, Javed Alam Odho, hinted at new details emerging from the ongoing investigation but refrained from providing specifics, stating that the investigation is still underway. He mentioned that a final opinion would be formed after consulting with medical authorities and taking medical experts on board.
The Accident
The deadly accident occurred on August 19 near the Pakistan Maritime Museum when the suspect’s luxury vehicle collided with multiple vehicles, resulting in the deaths of a young woman, 26-year-old Aamna Arif, and her father, 60-year-old Imran Arif. Another individual was critically injured in the crash.
According to the suspect, the car lost control while she was driving on the service road near Karsaz, leading to the accident. The victims were taken to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
Legal Proceedings
The case was filed by Imtiaz Arif, the brother of the deceased, at the Bahadurabad police station. The FIR includes charges of culpable homicide and negligence, which were added due to the suspect’s alleged reckless driving. Imtiaz stated that his brother and niece died as a result of the suspect’s “negligence, freewheeling, and speeding.”
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that the suspect possessed a valid driving license, which led to the inclusion of culpable homicide charges in the FIR, along with charges of negligence and rash driving.
