In a shift from his previous stance, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman hinted at the possibility of reconciling with the coalition government, stating that regardless of whether the current parliament was formed through Form 45 or 47, it must be utilized to address pressing national issues.
Speaking in the National Assembly, Fazl stressed the importance of rebuilding public trust in the state and its institutions. He highlighted the need to reassure the people of Balochistan, Sindh, and other provinces that their rights to resources under the 18th Amendment would be respected. “The state has no right to claim the resources of any province,” he asserted.
Fazl also pointed out the increasing instability in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where armed groups have taken control, collecting taxes, and carrying out attacks on security forces. He expressed concern over the sidelining of experienced politicians, replaced by younger, less seasoned individuals whose actions complicate efforts to resolve these crises.
The JUI-F chief called for empowering politicians to lead the dialogue with stakeholders, rather than relying solely on the establishment. He warned that the government is engaged in a proxy war influenced by external powers and urged for confidence-building talks to improve law and order.
Opposition leader Omar Ayub also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Balochistan, noting that Akhtar Mengal’s resignation as an MNA was a sign of deeper unrest. He criticized the lack of attention to the province’s grievances, including the issue of missing persons and the censorship of opposition speeches.
PMLN’s Hanif Abbasi responded by criticizing the opposition’s stance, particularly their attacks on the military, reminding them of the consequences of the May 9 violence and urging accountability.
