“Army Warns Against Political Exploitation of Personnel, Cites Faiz Hameed”

The Pakistan Army, through its spokesperson DG ISPR Lt. Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, reaffirmed that legal action would be taken against anyone using a person serving under the Army Act for personal or political gains, regardless of their status. At a press conference, Gen Ahmad addressed concerns from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding potential implications for their party founder in the case involving former ISI chief Lt. Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. He emphasized that the military leadership remains committed to self-accountability, ensuring that any personnel found guilty of pursuing personal or political interests will face the consequences, including court martial proceedings. The ongoing case against Faiz Hameed serves as an example of the Army’s resolve to hold individuals accountable, with Gen Ahmad expressing hope that this approach would encourage other institutions to follow suit. The DG ISPR underscored that the Pakistan Army maintains no political agenda and operates strictly within the professional framework as outlined in the Constitution. He also provided updates on counter-terrorism operations, highlighting over 32,000 intelligence-based operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the past eight months, resulting in significant gains against terrorist elements.
