In the by-election for Constituency NA-171 Rahim Yar Khan, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate, Makhdoom Tahir Rashiduddin, emerged victorious with 116,429 votes, according to unofficial results. He defeated Hasan Mustafa of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who garnered 58,251 votes.
Polling took place smoothly from 8 am to 5 pm on Thursday, with a highly anticipated contest between the PPP and PTI candidates. In addition to the two main contenders, four independent candidates also participated in the race.
The by-election was held following the death of PTI MNA Mumtaz Mustafa, leaving the seat vacant. The total number of registered voters in this constituency stood at 526,973.
