KARACHI: The importance of technology in developing modern literacy and other skills has been well established at a global level. Wali Shah says, “Literacy in the 21st century is about constructing and validating knowledge. Educational technology can benefit classroom activities in several ways, from helping students’ access easy video instructions to immersive virtual experiences that spark their curiosity. Access to technology can also ignite interest in STEM careers and give students the opportunity to become lifelong learners, creators and problem solvers.”

Shah says “Schools in marginalised areas in Pakistan face the biggest investment needs in the country, meaning that students attending these schools are doubly disadvantaged. These students come mainly from low income and rural families to attend poorly equipped schools.

For instance, 72 percent of rural secondary schools are missing a science laboratory, and nearly 40 percent do not have indoor toilets. However, even though urban schools are a bit better equipped than rural units, many are overcrowded. One in four students in urban areas attends an overcrowded school, many of which operate in shifts. Overcrowded classrooms, such the one below, are sub optimal for teaching and learning. Hence, I request the government to take serious and drastic steps for modernization of our educational institutions.”

Wali Shah says “Today’s world is highly technological. There is nothing in this world in which modern technology is not involved. Technology is involved in every field of the present World. Modern technology improves every kind of field and eases the work for the people worldwide. It is important to understand how modern technology incredibly helps in improving education and make the education delivery process smooth and easy to understand for the students and as well as for the teachers.

“We should keep our children connected with modern technology so that they can prepare themselves for the future world and our country can develop rapidly. Today the students and teachers use modern technology gadgets and devices made for the purpose of study and learning worldwide but our students are suffering,” CEO Projector Union Wali Shah tells TFD.
