Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz publicly condemned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for using inappropriate language against her and other opponents. Speaking at an event in Faisalabad, Maryam expressed dismay over Gandapur’s choice of words, accusing him of setting a poor example for the nation.
She cautioned Gandapur against breaking the law in Punjab, warning that any unlawful actions would be met with a strict response. Referring to his past behavior, she remarked, “If a chief minister invades another province, waves an AK-47, and damages public property, what kind of message does that send?”
Maryam also lamented that certain figures were inciting violence in Punjab, but vowed to protect the province from becoming a breeding ground for terrorism.
Maryam Launches Agriculture Internship Program, Promises Farmer Support
During the same event, Maryam Nawaz launched an agriculture internship program at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. She distributed internship letters to 1,000 selected graduates, noting that the program had received over 5,000 applications. Emphasizing inclusivity, she mentioned that 25% of the interns were women.
Maryam also highlighted the government’s upcoming farmer support package, which aims to address long-standing issues in the agriculture sector. She emphasized that the prosperity of Punjab is closely linked to the well-being of its farmers and promised continued efforts to lower the prices of essential goods, such as flour, sugar, and vegetables.
Plans for Faisalabad IT City and Safari Park Unveiled
Maryam also chaired a meeting in Faisalabad where plans to establish Pakistan’s second IT city and an international standard safari park were discussed. The projects, following similar developments in Lahore, are expected to boost Faisalabad’s economy. Additionally, she announced the start of a metro bus project in the city next year.
Strengthening Ties with China
In a separate meeting, Maryam Nawaz and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong to discuss strengthening bilateral ties in technology, business, and investment. Maryam expressed optimism about future collaborations with China, particularly in the agriculture sector and the expansion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) into Punjab. Ambassador Jiang invited Maryam to visit China, an offer she graciously accepted.
KP Government Responds to Maryam’s Remarks
Following Maryam’s remarks, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Adviser to the KP Chief Minister, defended Gandapur’s actions. He argued that holding public meetings in Punjab is a democratic right, rejecting Maryam’s suggestion that these gatherings were promoting violence. Saif criticized the Punjab government for its role in the 2014 Model Town incident, labeling it as true terrorism.
He added that Gandapur would continue his activities in Punjab and dismissed any concerns about facing legal repercussions, stating that the KP leadership would not be intimidated by “fake cases.” Saif accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of hypocrisy, calling their government’s actions fascist while accusing others of terrorism.
