Two Terrorists Behind Dasu Hydel Project Attack Killed in ‘Friendly Fire’

In a dramatic turn of events, two terrorists involved in the 2021 Dasu Hydropower Project (DHPP) attack were killed by their own accomplices during an attempted prison escape, according to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD). The terrorists, who were on death row, were being moved from Sahiwal prison due to security concerns when the incident occurred on Sammundari Road in Sahiwal.

The CTD spokesperson reported that the terrorists’ accomplices ambushed law enforcement officials, opening fire in an attempt to free them. However, in a twist of fate, the gunfire struck and killed the very individuals they were trying to rescue. One of the deceased terrorists was identified as the mastermind behind the Dasu Hydropower Project attack.

The 2021 attack resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals who were working on the hydropower project. Investigations later revealed that the attack was part of a terrorist plot orchestrated by a nexus between India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS).

Following the attack, the Chinese company working on the project temporarily suspended operations due to security concerns. However, after a few months, the company resumed work on the hydropower site.

In November 2022, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sentenced the two arrested terrorists to death on 13 counts, imposing a fine of Rs40 million and handing down over 800 years of combined imprisonment.

The Foreign Office welcomed the verdict, stating that it underscored Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism. It further emphasized that the proactive investigation and subsequent prosecution were a testament to the country’s dedication to ensuring justice for such heinous acts of violence.
