Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of hydrocarbons in the Sawan South Block, located in District Khairpur, Sindh Province. The discovery was made at the Shahu-1 exploratory well, which is part of a joint venture between OGDCL (holding 20% interest), United Energy Pakistan Limited (UEPL) (75% interest), and the Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL) (5%).
The Shahu-1 well was spudded-in on August 18, 2024, and has successfully drilled down to a depth of 12,675 ft. It is estimated to produce around 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas with a wellhead flowing pressure of ~4100 pounds per square inch (Psi).
This discovery is expected to aid in further exploration activities within the block and contribute significantly to the country’s energy supply, providing indigenous resources and boosting economic growth.
